i wish i could sing
in September on ONTD's recommendation, I downloaded Lungs by Florence+the machine. i listened to it and liked it but never really listened to it. that changed 2 weeks ago and lately it's the only album I'm listening too. her voice is full of win but she always sings in the same tone/range and I'm hoping on their second album she'll steer away from it. regardless though she is amazing and i wish i could see them April 10th when they come to T.O. but alas it was just not meant to be! :(

Today Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" comes out. all of my friends are super excited about it; and I'll admit when i first heard about it i too was excited, but not anymore. this is mainly because i am starting to really despise all things that fall under Tim Burton's ~vision~. when he first started out, he was amazing! Edward Scissorhands is totally original and just all around awesome, but lately he just plain sucks. i think he's just lazy. he had the potential to be really groundbreaking? but he has definitely dropped the ball.
when i heard he was going to remake charlie and the chocolate factory i was excited! it is fucked up enough that his warped sense of directing would be good...... boy was i wrong! it was a complete train wreck! i love Johnny Depp but even he could not make this movie worth watching. and so i thought the same thing about Alice in Wonderland. my opinion was that out of all the movies that could be made by him, Alice in Wonderland was one of the few that actually seemed to fit his style. i waited diligently and excitedly to see who'd be cast and for the first pictures to surface, and they were enough to keep me excited. then he released the trailer and i was shocked. while the scenes looked amazing visually, it just looked boring. there's no other word for it. it looked as my mom would say "deadly dull". this saddens me because this was one of my favourite books growing up.
i am however going to wait until i see it, and then i can say with absolute certainly that Burton has lost his touch...... but i think I'll wait until it comes out on DVD.
